Yarn Review: Online Supersocke 100 Melange

  • Yarn name: Supersocke 100 Melange
  • Manufacturer: Online
  • Style: Sortierung 87
  • Fiber Content: 75% Superwash Wool, 25% Polyamid Nylon
  • Yardage: 420 meters or 459 yards
  • Country of Origin: Italy

    Summary
Online offers this style in eight color combinations, which is what first caught my eye. I could tell from the yarn dye spacing that it would be a self-patterning yarn, of course the small photo on the back of the skein band might have given me a clue too. An average sock requires one skein.

    My Impressions
This yarn was very soft to the touch. It knit up quickly and effortlessly. The pattern repeat was 1 5/8 inches with a total of 6 horizontal stripes of color.... 2 of the stripes patterned differently in each repeat... which kept the knitting interesting and I believe added to the speed of the overall sock knitting.

    The Knitting Experience
I chose to use US # 1 dpn's to make a slightly thicker sock. The yarn was soft to the touch and pleasant to knit with....it knitted up quick and effortlessly. No snagging, no twisting, and no knots. With repeats of just under 2", it was easy to set goals, like "just one more repeat" to speed the knitting along before stopping.

The horizonal bands of color work perfectly, regardless of the size of the sock..... the bands are just slightly narrower on a larger sock or wider bands of color for a smaller sock.

The yarn can be pulled from either the center of the skein or the outside of the skein. Because of the short repeat, its truly not necessary to match exactly, however....if this makes you nuts... its a short enough repeat that not much yarn will be wasted to match them identically.

    Washability
Machine washable. Recommend Gentle cycle with cold water and Line dry. I have found the socks to soften with washing. Size remained the same and the socks bounced back. Any of my own knitting flaws seemed to disappear. They're lovely.

    Wearability
The wool/nylon blend means there is no need to reinforce either the heels or toes. After many wearings, they have not shown any signs of wear. Seem durable with no pilling. Very soft on the feet ... no scratchiness and non-irritating to the bottom of the feet. Holds elasticity over time and is comfortable to wear with shoes.
