Yarn Review: Regia

  • Yarn name: Regia
  • Manufacturer: Schachenmayr
  • Style: 5519
  • Fiber Content: 75% Superwash Wool, 25% Polyamid Nylon
  • Yardage: 229 yards
  • Country of Origin: Italy

Summary Regia offers this style in several color combinations, along with a collection of self-patterning jacquard styled stripes. The style I selected had distinctive patterning but it wasn't evident if it were a self-patterning or a stripe design. I was somewhat surprised to find it was neither but more like dabs of color, kind of like a painting. An average pair of socks requires two skeins.

My Impressions This yarn was very soft to the touch. It knit up effortlessly. The featured pattern does not have an obvious repeat pattern... initially I was disappointed because I was expecting more of a jacquard stripe, but as I knitted on the design really grew on me.

The Knitting Experience I chose to use US # 1 dpn's to make a slightly thicker sock. The yarn was soft to the touch and pleasant to knit with....without snagging, twisting, or knots.

With a no repeat design, the socks looked identical without having to match up the yarn. Resulting in no yarn waste. The yarn can be pulled from either the center of the skein or the outside of the skein.

Washability Machine washable. Recommend Gentle cycle with cold water and Line dry. I have found the socks to soften with washing. Size remained the same.

Wearability The wool/nylon blend means there is no need to reinforce either the heels or toes. After many wearings, they have not shown any signs of wear. Seem durable with no pilling. Very soft on the feet ... no scratchiness and non-irritating to the bottom of the feet. Holds elasticity over time and is comfortable to wear with shoes.
