Yarn Review: Trekking Pro Natura

  • Yarn name: Trekking Pro Natura
  • Manufacturer: Zitron
  • Style: Pro Natura 1605
  • Fiber Content: 75% Superwash Virgin Wool, 25% Bamboo Fiber
  • Yardage: 420 meters or 459 yards
  • Country of Origin: Germany

Summary Trekking Pro Natura is Zitron's classic sock yarn with Bamboo (not viscose)! By making use of the actual Bamboo fibers (not the pulp), the end result is a stronger yarn. Bamboo fibers are not only strong enough to replace nylon in a sock yarn, they are soft, lustrous, and beautiful -- plus, natural bamboo, unlike the viscose "bamboo silks" retains 100% of bamboo's health-giving properties. Bamboo fibers not only breathe, they also absorb four times more moisture than cotton. Bamboo fiber is naturally antimicrobial, helping to reduce athletes foot without any added chemicals. And keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I like the beautiful heathered selection of colors available. One skein will make a generous pair of socks.

My Impressions Pro Natura's softness is so delicious that I find myself petting it while I knit. The blended fibers take color in beautifully subtle complexity. One of the best things about Pro Natura, is that its heathered solid colors are rich and it's multi-colors never stripe, instead they behave like the best handpaints.

The Knitting Experience US # 0 - 2.5 (2 - 3mm) was recommended. I chose to use US # 1 dpn's and was pleased with the result. The yarn was soft to the touch and pleasant to knit with....knit up quickly and effortlessly. No snagging, no twisting, and no knots. The yarn can be pulled from either the center of the skein or the outside of the skein.

I'll be honest with you....I kind of hated for the project to end. Trekking pro natura is in my top picks.

Washability Machine washable. Recommend Gentle cycle with cold water and Line dry. I have found the socks remain soft after washing.

Wearability The wool/bamboo blend means there is no need to reinforce either the heels or toes. Bamboo is the natural alternative to nylon. After many wearings, they have not shown any signs of wear. Seem durable with no pilling. Very soft on the feet ... no scratchiness and non-irritating to the bottom of the feet. Holds elasticity over time and can be easily worn with shoes. These are my favorite socks! Is it Trekking Pro Natura or is it the Kiera pattern or maybe its BOTH!
