Yarn Review: Trekking XXL 165

  • Yarn name: Trekking XXL
  • Manufacturer: Zitron
  • Style: 165
  • Fiber Content: 75% Superwash Wool, 25% Polyamid Nylon
  • Yardage: 420 meters or 459 yards
  • Country of Origin: Germany

Summary Trekking XXL 165 is one of many beautiful color combinations offered in stripes of varying thicknesses. With exact repeats of 2.5 inches. It was the color combinations that first caught my eye, but I could not tell from the skein how the pattern would knit up. A generous pair of socks requires one skein.

My Impressions This yarn was very soft to the touch. It knit up quickly and effortlessly. The pattern does repeat exactly which may require matching to insure that socks are identical, if this is important to you.

The pattern repeat kept the knitting interesting and I do believe may have added to the speed of my overall sock knitting.

    The Knitting Experience US # 0 - 2.5 (2 - 3mm) was recommended. I chose to use US # 1 dpn's and was pleased with the result.

The yarn was soft to the touch and pleasant to knit with....knit up quickly and effortlessly. No snagging, no twisting, and no knots.

The yarn can be pulled from either the center of the skein or the outside of the skein, but not both since the pattern is directional.

I used this pattern for my basic stockinette sock

Washability Machine washable. Recommend Gentle cycle with cold water and Line dry. I have found the socks to soften with washing. Size remained the same and the socks bounced back. Any of my own knitting flaws seemed to disappear. They turned out much nicer than I originally expected.

Wearability The wool/nylon blend means there is no need to reinforce either the heels or toes. After many wearings, they have not shown any signs of wear. Seem durable with no pilling. Very soft on the feet ... no scratchiness and non-irritating to the bottom of the feet. Holds elasticity over time and can be easily worn with shoes.
